In most cases, I think the pols have ceded their personae to their professional handlers. Shaping a national image has become a fine art that requires a deep pool of talent.

In Palin's case she is nothing but a construct that, in real life, stands zero scrutiny.

It would be a morbid display but I would very much enjoy watching her run again.

Although, OTOH, for perhaps the first time in history they can be assured that someone is digitally capturing the moment.

And with so many bloggers, political pros and polarized voters waiting to pounce on any utterance that isn't four-score-and-seven-years-ago quality, it's no wonder that the lesser lights, at least, simply choose to not participate.
