It was a communist dictatorship.


Its purely coincidental......the dictatorship had little to do with the economic system. And in fact, Russia, as the Soviet Union, was an oligarchy. It still is to some degree today.

And the communism itself was the source for a lot of the problems. For example, collectivizing agriculture killed enormous numbers of people.

No, it did not. Stalin killed a lot of people because he was a paranoid dictator who believed everyone was his enemy.
