Maybe he is hoping for a kinder gentler stock market boom like the one that ended in tears in 2000. How many people do you know who cashed out large sum from their 401K's during the tech boom, then cashed out some home equity during the housing boom?

I know some who have been living beyond thier means for 15-20 years.

Instead of having the taxpayers living large while getting loaded up on debt or taking from retirement savings we have the government doing it now. The same taxpayers will be doubly screwed because they will have less opportunity to save while the government takes what it must to service debt.

True, the American people have learned their lesson, at least for today, but our gov't has not. They continue to borrow at accelerating rates. It's really scary. And now Obama wants to spend another $800B in Afghanistan, where we will get zero return on our investment. I am sick and tired of these worthless wars that destroy tens of thousands of American lives and cost us trillions of dollars.

For a fraction of those costs we could have been oil independent and then we wouldn't ever have to worry about fanatical Muslims in the Middle East anymore. We're so short sighted.
