Mary;

The demand for housing is a good example of the differences between Austrian and Keynesian schools of thought.

You seem to be saying that the only cure is to tighten our belts. Get used to suffering and things will naturally turn around.

"get use to suffering" - American don't know suffering. Not one person in my family over the age of 40 has one house, they have more than one. My daughter considerable younger than 40 owns a home large enough for 15 people. My neighbor decided to move back to California and bought two foreclosed homes there - so now he owns three homes. Another neighbor is desperate to sell his home because he can't afford it - and the second one he lives in. I could go on.

But you are right about the differences between Keynesian and Austrians; Austrians believe you should be able to afford your house and pay for it Keynesians - by definition as you used it - believe the government should help pay for your house. But in the long run you keynesians pay more - we all pay more.
