I really thought Obama was a progressive populist who would stand up to the corporate interests and fight for what's right...I also thought he would be willing to take on the ultra-powerful Military Industrial Complex and end the 2 wars in Afghanistan and Iraq...guess I was wrong.

In his first year Obama comes across as a very cautious CENTRIST who triangulates...Where's the Obama who was a fighter that we saw out on the campaign trail...?? I wish Obama would appoint Bill Moyers as a Senior Advisor and LISTEN TO HIM.

It is clear some 11 months after Obama took office that he has failed to aggressively pursue the agenda he campaigned and was elected on."

I think that view is unfair and a bit myopic. If you have any doubt that Obama is moving this country to the left, you need only to listen to the screams coming from the rightie peanut gallery. Naturally, they are exaggerating the move but then that is their nature. In the past ten months, the gov't has intervened to save several banks and car companies.....a move a winger president would cut off his right arm before doing. He has pushed to have cafe standards raised and to move towards a more green economy. He is removing lobbyists from gov't advisory panels...in other words, cutting off DC lobbyists at their knees. He is pushing for new regulations governing banks and Wall Street. A month ago, he ended the travel ban imposed on HIV positive individuals.....a ban put into place by Reagan over two decades ago. That is the short list......there are many more small measures that make the list a long one esp given he has been in office only ten months.

However, there are two big moves that must be especially acknowledged. First he saved this country from near total economic collapse...the ramifications of which we have yet to fully escape.......see the articles on Dubai and today's stock market. Secondly, he has managed to get health care reform to be under active consideration......a feat no president to date has been able to do. And make no mistake........Congress may be doing the legislating on this subject but its Obama who is doing the heavy lifting.

Obama has been in office less than a year and some lefties already are beginning to sound like their rightie cousins. Don't fall for that trap.......this country has leaned right for way too many years. Its going to take a while before it can be steered into more liberal waters. Patience is key here......not criticism. Obama knows what he is doing so cut him some slack.

And one last thing......when he was elected, I was stunned that we pulled off what seemed to be the impossible when proposed over three years ago. I was one of his earliest supporters and I truly believed that I was whistling Dixie. And now after ten months in office.........I am deeply honored that Barack Obama is my president. He honors us in so many ways.......not only Americans but people outside this country. When the Iranians protest.....whether three months ago or last week, they call to Obama. Oppressed people all over this world get who he is and see him as their savior. He is their hope.....and the truth to be told, he is America's hope. And if you all are foolish enough to turn on him, then this country doesn't deserve a great president!
