Fred...as to my thoughts about Java.,
First...Java is great but still slow.
Second..A technology analyst I follow says Java is still three or four years down the road for it to be of any benefit to Sun financially.
Third...and this, I'm afraid is the worst, Microsoft appears to have been able to subsume Java and tailor it to its needs and may be able to do an end run around Sun. Sun's version, in my opinion, will of course survive, but it will be a player in a big universe.
And finally...in the long run, as has been mentioned on some of these threads many times...I believe that eventually there will be several big mergers involving Sun, Netscape, Oracle...and perhaps IBM and ATT as well. Regards, Harry.
