As I've said before, I've put in more than a few orders to short Avant! at Waterhouse previous to this week, they always had shares available. Quite frankly, I was shocked when my order Thursday was rejected due to lack of shares. I don't doubt Datek would let you short, how about putting in an order at Etrade (if you don't want to sell more, you could ask for a limit of say 33 and cancel it soon after you find out whether the shares are available or not.
