It was one of the reasons. Perhaps to finally assist our allies. but why did we consider them allies and would not now consider the peoples of the areas we are in now to be our allies worthy of our work and sacrifice? Don't some people still complain that the French just rolled over and why did we bother with them? And gracious... we'd already spent treasure and blood, much on a scale that Iraq and Afghanistan compares to not at all, dragging the sorry tribal Euros out of a war just decades before. My argument is not that we shouldn't have done it, but how does it differ?
