Hence a war tax, for one thing. we did have quite a lot of butter all through the vietnam era and on past. sadly much was badly spent on just giving out checks and building shoddy housing that was then left to fall to ruin by neglgent absent landlords (us). we could have spent actually economically developing the south and northern urban areas.

not many people thought a healthcare bill could be deficit neutral, much less save money and cut the deficit. but we have one on the table now. amazing things can be done when you really get into the numbers. there is such a lot of waste in the budget, and I'm not talking about healthcare for children or the VA or such. 50 to 100 billion could be cut from the defence budget just by cutting things like the people working to map the brains of cats.
