The USA was near a peak in popularity in the Clinton years. It collapsed under Bush...much like the US economy...

In 1958 LatAm had a clear communist bias which could account for their anti-Americanism then. It's quite different today -- Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia notwithstanding.

In 1958 underdog Castro with the help of Argentina's Che Guevara took over Cuba...much of LatAM praised their achievement, and anti-US feelings were at new highs. Today, almost nobody cares for the three stooges(Chavez et al) outside of their respective countries.
