I would expect they appoint someone with some standing or have some amount of personal credibility and be able to at least present the administrations point of view.

I know in past administrations they were able to plant false stories in the major newspapers if you remember Judith Miller et al and there were other stories about paying and compromising journalists. And of course there were all kinds of stories where previous administrations would leak information to favored journalists almost on a regular basis. Those practises were common to all previous administrations.

This administration seems unable to tell its own side of the story on the up and up.
