Another genius who doesn't understand that raising taxes will reduce, not increase, "revenue". Aside from the rather obvious damage it would do to an already problematic economy at this time (when we already have massive tax increases planned for the coming year or two).

I need revenue. Badly. I just wrote a lot of checks that I can't cash to people who will support me for re-election.

Let me put it this way. You're going to drive out the individual investor and ensure that only institutions like hedge funds can do short-term trades.

Maybe you think that's a good thing, since you can discourage "bad behavior" on the part of the little guy and get revenues from the big guy who will still be doing their trading. But the net effect of punishing the little guy is to grow the gap between rich and poor even more.

And that's just one of many examples of how liberal tax-n-spend schemes ultimately achieve the opposite of what they intend.
