Extravagant, flashy, like Saddam's palaces. LOL!! You should see some of the photos I have of Saddam's "flashy" palaces. I recall the first time I stepped into the Al Faw palace and noted the beautiful black marble he had on the pillars. But when you stepped a bit closer to scrutinize them, you could see 1/2 inch of black silicon filling the gaps between the slabs. images.google.com And the brickwork on many of these palaces was a travesty. The facades were quite nicely done, but the interior brick bearing walls were very poorly built, with inconsistent mortar in between each brick. travel.webshots.com Having seen the brickwork of colonial Americans while walking around Alexandria, VA, the contrast was quite stark. I also spent a lot of my time off at this pool.. That is, until the MNFI, in their infinite wisdom tried to close it down as being in conflict with our "mission". Can't have the troops actually enjoying their time off in Iraq: images.google.com Poolside "bar" where they served up bottled water and ice: travel.webshots.com Somewhere there's a photo of Saddam sitting at this same pool. We called this place "Bedrock" since it resembled something out of the Flintstones. Very poorly built, but it must have looked amazing when it was new as there a number of "waterfalls" that streamed down into the man-made lake. travel.webshots.com Hawk
