Just a bit hotter...if you have a candy temp gauge, test it and you'll see where the water should be for the yeast. And yes, just that little bit of sugar feeds the yeast! If I'm making a heavy grain bread, I use more yeast than the receipt calls for...For 3 packs of dry yeast, I'd probably use 2 teaspoons of sugar....

Sugar (or honey) helps feed the yeast. Salt retards it. Most breads I make use a combination of yeast and salt (teaspoon or less) in making the sponge.
