The simple fact that our war on drugs created and financed the murderous Mexican and Colombian drug cartels and continues to do so, should stop and give us pause.

But the argument is never framed that way. The tough alpha male politicians just keep harping away on how if we just get tougher, the war will magically turn our way despite all evidence to the contrary. Illegal immigration too! Rah-rah!

Just more self-indulgent stupidity.
