Don't know about Bill, but I could see a Romney/Palin ticket. His religion might be a drawback, but I think, between the 2 of them, we could straighten up at least some of these liberal debacles.

And who would this be?

A Governor.

After the socialist moves by Kennedy/Johnson presidencies, the republicans believed the climate was ripe for a conservative. They believed that Goldwater was the man. And he was. Except for two things - the East Coast Establishment and the media. The Establishment knew that he would stop the forward movement toward socialism, i.e. Great Society etc. This could not be tolerated.

When the Rockefeller/Scranton Establishment could not unseat him at the convention, it was left to the media to get the job done. And they did.

He was accused of being trigger happy with the A-bomb, opposed to Social Security, being racist and essentially, a war-monger.

It cost him the election and even Huntley/Brinkley admitted it. They said if the election had been run on issues, he would have won.

The power base in New York and the East Coast will fight like hell to keep Palin and Romney out. In fact, they have already started.

The difference between Goldwater's time and now is the internet. Goldwater had to rely on the MSM to get out his message and he was stonewalled. Today's candidates have a far better shot at getting heard.

The more that Obama moves this country toward socialism, the greater chance that a conservative can be victorious.

Hopefully, it will be after one Obama term versus two.
