< I worry more about Israel than Iran, domestically>

What I mean is that in terms of ultimately generating harm at home, Israel is more likely to be the root cause (as it was in 9/11 - our policies WRT Israel caused that attack). Iran is just not likely to pick a fight with us. However, since they have been attacked by Israel, Israel might motivate us to lash out on their behalf by staging something that causes us to act and blame it on Iran. Iran's aggression against us will be responsive to a US led attack. IMO.

Well, I don't disagree with your assessment of the ME being a mess and the tribal history behind it causing the mess, and add to that the intervention of European imperial powers first in the era of colonialism and then the 20th century intervention of American Oil companies.

Not going to go with you on Israel though. I do think they have a right to exist and I see their offensive actions as actually being defensive.

My solution to the Israel/Arab problem would be to offer the entire state of Israel a comparable piece of land in West Texas that they could gradually pay off with the revenue from their high tech companies. It's a solution that would work for everyone, but I don't think it will ever happen. But if I were King that's how I would solve this.
