YECH!

A kid who just graduated from high school in our town went to Santa Cruz and died when he flew his kite into the cliffs.

When I was in Baja Mexico last year, an expert kite surfer died in an accident just miles downwind. The wind and waves were not unusually large or difficult that day. Nobody is sure what happened. She was young and had 3 kids I think....

A friend and regular fixture at one site died a few years ago when he went to get his ditched kite off the San Mateo bridge. He was missing for days until people started to worry about him. He was usually the last to leave to make sure everyone was in safe... He drove down to free his kite so nobody knew he was missing. (He lived alone) We think he got tangled in his kite lines that were wrapped around a piling of the bridge. I was in Maui at the time but I believe many went out in small boats and planes to search and find his body.

People who die windsurfing usually do something stupid... where kiting still has too many mystery deaths for my taste.
