Greg,

Re: "AMD has the 64 bit chip
technology and sould be out with the .25 as early as this quarter ... you don't know What's what"

Actually Greg, the Merced will be fabricated in Intel's .18um process ... BTW,
Intel's .25um process is still 1/2 -> 1 generation ahead in performance
as compared to AMD's .25um process. This is just a fact !!

With all of AMD's problems with .35um technology, I wouldn't look for a
stable .25um process from AMD anytime soon.

Make It So,
Yousef

Greg - Re: "He said there are 12,000 plus people working on
it's development. "

Andy Grove DID NOT SAY 12,000 INTEL PEOPLE.

The 12,000 people includes IA 64 development efforts at Intel, Hewlett Packard, IBM, SCO, Microsoft, Compaq, SAP, DELL, AST, BAAN, Oracle, Tandem, Sequent, Data General, SGI, Intergraph, NetPOWER, etc., etc.

In other words, 90% of the computer industry has a development project directly related to the Merced/IA64 product.

If and when AMD comes out with their K7, it will be an x86 processor - and Intel will have its Willamette to compete against it.

That leaves AMD locked out of the burgeoning Big Silicon market - for Workstations and Enterprise Servers.
