I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on my mothers computer last week, set it up for manual scans only. Nice programs works well.

Glary is a very popular and recommended utility on most sites. I haven't used it but may give it a try some day. It has a lot of good features. I have read some good reviews of Security Essentials and some mediocre ones. It's hard to decide on apps like that when you're never sure you aren't getting lied to by paid reviewers. I am not saying that is the case at all, just a thought passing my feeble senior brain.
