Big difference, you made it sound like the entire neighborhood is getting lawyers... but, since you ask, my best guess is that these people are now looking at the opportunity for a book deal... and what is your great reason? TIA

So... the answer to the very question that you posed ("Why are the neighbors getting 'lawyered up'?") is that they want their privacy to be respected and so that's why they got some professional to handle the crush of Press inquiries in their stead....
