Some of the ETF's can be pretty flaky, like UNG for example.

I think a commodities position is a good one, but the longer the better (but not if you have to pay high prices for later contracts)...

My experience with ETF's is limited to GLD and DBA, both of which had hidden costs, and some additional risks. The prospectus on GLD was not to my liking... and governments are making noises about limiting positions in AG commodities, but not gold and silver (for some strange reason).
