As opposed to fly vs driving, or just to driving?

People now (or, at least when there was more employment) had 3 and 4 hour commutes from the Sierra foothills to SF. They could be in downtown LA faster than that by HSR. Fresno and Bakersfield commuting to Si Valley? Fresno -> San Diego? Tijuana -> vineyards?

"link San Francisco and Los Angeles in as little as two and a half hours"
If I was leaving from SFO, and staying on the mid Peninsula, I'd leave 2 hours early to catch the plane, which took ?55 minutes to LAX, which is ?1hr from LA, (after spending 45 minutes waiting for baggage..optional) if there was a car waiting to me when I walked out the airport door..
