Much of the criticism surrounds the false claim by the critics that creationists do not accept scientific observations of the circumstance of nature and its processes. Creationists, at least educated creationists, usually attribute natural circumstance as having been purposely made the way it is, which is observable scientifically.

Beyond that both Creationism and it's critics make claims that cannot be substantiated scientifically ... That is, beliefs with regards to concerning the evolution of living organisms, the idea of common descent, the origin of the universe, etc.

The primary difference being that creationists are more likely to come clean wrt their beliefs, where as the critics, who are often not qualified scientists themselves, are likely to make unsupportable claims involving science, and are more likely to attack the character of those believers.
