The problem I find with buying puts, or any options, is it end up getting expensive... I would much rather write calls and let the market work... if the market still rallies, then at least I'm making the premiums and if it sells off, I'm coming down softer... I realize with a long put you can still enjoy full advantage of the rally, but it's still giving back some of the gains, not much different than writing call, I suppose...<g>
