Do welfare and food stamps, etc. cost other people money ?

If you want to penalize freeloaders, you'll get no argument from me. But assuming that someone without insurance is necessarily a freeloader is inapt and wrong. Paying one's own way is, or at least used to be, a key element of good character and good citizenship. Disparaging that by calling it "freeloading" is not constructive.

If you want to penalize actual freeloaders, track down those who skip out on medical bills and fine them or put them in jail. Don't anticipate freeloading where it may not exist. That's contrary to the American system of justice. We can't even penalize stalkers until they actually harm the victim. How in the world can we justify penalizing as freeloaders those who don't have insurance? That's way out of line.
