It's a reminder how much the loud voices from the left and the right can obscure the real political landscape sometimes.

I think it is also indicative of the power of a popular President to shape the political landscape.

When these kinds of disparities between Beltway views and polls occur, I'm always reminded of the huge gap between them during the Clinton impeachment process. A lesson learned.

As for Bernanke's reappointment, I agree. I don't see anyway he fails to get confirmed. However, I do think it's important to express some political displeasure with his and Geithner's failures to bargain more effectively during the AIG mess (to name only one thing). There needs to be some political momentum built for more regulation.
