I know, but no country has centered their entire economy around the automobile quite like ours has. So it's alot more painful for the US to do, which is why politicians avoid a gas tax like the plague. Unfortunately for us. So long as you have people like Hannity, Rush, Demint and the Kraut screaming their fool heads off whenever we try to do something rational in this country, we will slowly dig our own graves. The winger right is like a dead weight that the rest of the nation is dragging behind it. The irony is that they contribute the least to our well being, and yet, they are given considerable weight in matters of national import. This odd arrangement seems to have developed over the last 30 years........I think they are R. Reagan's silent majority......and is causing this country all kinds of pain. It has skewed the perception of our legislative bodies, cutural entities and the media to the side of the dysfunctional right to the point where an idiot like Palin or Beck can garner all kinds of attention and make millions selling books they produce like candy. Our entire culture has been dramatically cheapened by these people and their antics. For a long time, American deficiencies were not so obvious to the rest of the world.......but that changed with the advent of the internet and Bush's election to the presidency. Now the rest of the world is keenly aware of how far we are lagging and the problems that are corrupting our systems. It is a serious problem that could well foreshadow our decline.....if it isn't already happening. The only reason I became politically active is because I could see the danger threatening to engulf this country.....not from without as the Rs would have us believe but from within. And it seems no matter what the more rational elements do, we can not quiet the extremists wingers and their crazy antics nor can we seem to make any substantive progress. Its becoming very painful to watch and I am growing tired of it. If its not possible to keep the Union intact, then lets get on with its dismembering.
