Exactly, my friend. I don't give two shits about the Iraqis or the Afghanis, but I care about American jobless and Americans without health care. And I care about the future of this country for my kids. Are we going to leave behind a paper tiger too deep in debt to pay for anything, much less defend itself?

Do you want to know the horrid fear I have for the end of America as we know it? It won't come with the bang of a terrorist bomb, it will creep up on us and seduce us like a succubus. No country will be able to take us on militarily, but they will be able to defeat us economically. Hell, they are already half way there.

Imagine this. Seven years from now, we're $20 trillion in debt. Every recession, we borrow more from the future to not feel the pain today. Every recession foreign countries use their currency reserves to lend us more money and to buy up our assets and revenue streams. Further into the future, foreign countries like China own most of the corporations and hard assets in the US. They use their money and influence to lobby our Congress and get the laws passed that they want. Over time, our Democracy doesn't really represent Americans any more, but it does represent the foreign countries who's money gets them elected.

If that happens, how long do you think the light of our Democracy will shine? It goes out with the seductress blowing out the candle, with a sigh and a whisper, not with a bang.

While we fiddle with Bin Laden and endless wars in the Middle East and they bleed us dry of our Treasury, just as Bin Laden said he would, China and other countries are preparing themselves to be the next superpowers. We taught them well and they are surpassing us at our own game.
