It is not an attractive profile of the Governor. Even their courtship comes off bad: Gibbons says her future husband was easy to get along with, and she remembers thinking he was a good man. But after a year-and-a-half, she broke off the relationship because she felt unappreciated. She says the final straw was when he gave her a birthday card that read, “You’re so lucky because you have me.” The articles also details her life on a small apartment on the property of the governor's mansion, where she has often seen him entertaining an array of female friends. This might qualify as one of the most brutal profiles of a major American politician in quite some time.
