Yes, it's almost as though he talked to Nikon and skipped the call to SVGI?

What does SVGI have to say about profitability and manufacturing?

Even his projection warrants a higher price.

Gary Hoyer:

<<Is it also your opinion that the stepper companies will collectively be able to build and ship that many steppers in 98? And if so why?>>

If you were a stepper maker and has a huge demand, more than you can
make, what do you do?

1) Expand your manufacturing capacity to make more steppers?

2) Just sell what you can make and let your competitors take away the business you can't satisfy?

I believe all stepper makers will choose #1. Remember the end of 1998 is at least 1 year away. That is plenty of time for Canon, Nikon, ASM, and SVGI to ramp up their facility to produce more steppers. ASM will introduce their scan and step system. This will allow ASM to ship more steppers than ZEISS can supply them with the precision lenses. SVGI uses alot of mirrors thus they don't need alot of precision lenses. SVGI will be limited to the number of Micrascan they can assemble. Canon is also shipping as fast as they can make.
Nikon, if they do have a problem, needs to solve their problem fast or their compeitors will steal their business. Ultimately, the stepper business will be driven by the demand. Remember there are at least 4 major players here and at least one of them will have the surge capacity to fill the demand.
