I read "Issac's Storm" last year. I must say the author of "The Childrens Blizzard" goes into much greater detail when describing the first years of the Weather Service, including descriptions and actions of the actors and players who set it in motion, and especially how it developed nation wide during the last half of the 18th century. He also gives a very detailed explanation of weather patterns, which is very complicated and hard to understand. I have retraced my steps in this book several times. It is not the kind of book you read quickly if you really want to understand the science. He also intermingles personal stories with real accounts of what happened that day..........most of them ended very tragically. I would give this book a solid 9+.
