Meanwhile, the Center of American "Progress" maintains a list of the top 100 effects of global warming:

The thing is that these changes occur and like most acts of nature, there is very little that can be done about them. You can keep the water out of New Orleans for a while, but at some point, it is coming in (just thank God we had a president who would willingly take the blame for the entire affair as though GWB opened the flood gates himself).

I can't begin to remember all the times the Left has been all in a twit about something like this, totally overreacting (admittedly, this one has particularly stubborn).

They almost always exaggerate and almost always exaggerate massively.

I can remember during the Gulf War Carl Sagan on Nightline talking about how, if Saddam sets fire to the Kuwaiti oil wells, we would see a "nuclear winter" that would cause a "worldwide famine" for decades to come. Just before this, days before the start of the war, we were told that America was attacking the 4th largest standing army in the world, and we should expect to see 10s of thousands of casualties. Right.

All this was only a couple years after Sagan appeared on the same program saying that the laws of physics made it clear that SDI could never work.

Just about any topic you pick, you can find liberal exaggerations in there somewhere.

The problem is they just cannot see progress in the same geometric progression they view the next disaster in. Parts of New Orleans were destroyed; yet, the Vieux Carre is busier than ever. And the infamous Lower 9th is coming stronger than ever.

The Left totally discounts the strength of determined men and the resilience of the Earth we live on. Don't know why, but they do.

"Look how stupid the first five sound already:"

Only because you don't understand what is behind those claims.

Yeah, on the face of it, they are pretty trivial. However, all but number 4 are a side effect of the fact that different things grow in different climates. Change the climate and you change what can be grown. We can live without wines. Or grapes, even. But what about wheat and corn? The Green Revolution pushed the Malthus solution back, but at the expense of making our major cultivars more dependent on particular growing conditions. And it takes time to come up with new cultivars.
