It is precisely the people that Right seems to dislike the most that are most affected by drug abuse. I think it bugs the right so much because it is an affront to their sense of propriety and because people "shouldn't do it". You'd figure they'd be glad to see them suffer. Ok - I get it - drug use is bad but the punishment model just hasn't worked. Time for a new approach - let's use medicine and not prisons.

Being a powerful metabolic poison, coke and crank is so destructive that people using it will likely be dead by 40. Heroine is not nearly as destructive to the body and many people will spontaneously get off the opiates if they can be reached.

Part of the social awareness should be to make youth see first hand all the glamor that goes with chronic drug addiction. We hide it in prison now. I can't imagine that every kid in high school is going to do lines of crank just because it is medicalized.
