Any opinions on Burke?

Not really. He's led a tough life and it shows. He's a heavy drinker - that has a powerful effect on anyone. Maybe as a younger man, his body could tolerate the abuse, but years of abuse are going to take its toll.

There's so many famous writers who were also drinkers. I've known a couple who actually thought the drink enhanced their writing - that they were better writers because of it. Look at the suicides among them - Hemingway, Hunter Thompson, Plath, John Kennedy Toole (one of my favorites) - there's a bunch.

I had one actually say to me, "Ah what a genius I had then," referring to writing while drunk.
