as we view the inverted image of the tree in the clear smooth waters of the lake, in like manner do we walk through the hours of our lives mistaking the pull downward as ascension, regression as development, entropy as attainment. did you hear the one about the Inimitable and Incomparable Nasrudin? one evening Nasrudin was on his hands and knees under a street light on the sidewalk in front of his house staring intently at the ground. one of his neighbors happened by and inquired what Nasrudin was doing. Nasrudin answered he was looking for his car keys. the neighbor, being kindhearted, offered to help. a young couple, out for a stroll, passed by. they too offered their help. soon a dozen ultruistic citizens were all milling about on hands and knees on Nasrudin's front lawn. after some time one of the neighbors asked, "Nasrudin, where exactly did you drop the keys". Nasrudin replied, "in the back yard" at which all heads jerked up in disbelief. "why in heaven's name," queried the neighbor, "are we looking for them in the front yard" to which Nasrudin promptly replied, "because there is more light here". Who are the three I mentioned? Nobodies. Respectively, a dead Frenchman who lived out his life in Morocco as a recluse, a dead Indian who was a curator of a museum and a live but old Swiss living out his last years in the US.
