Even the White House admits over 12 percent of Medicare claims are fraudulent. So Medicare denies more claims than private insurance, and of the ones they do accept, 1 in 8 are fraudulent or improper. By some estimates, Medicare loses seven times as much money in fraud every year than the combined profits of the 14 health insurance companies on the Fortune 500.

You won't hear RW bringing these facts up.

How is it Medicare spends 30% more per beneficiary on administration, denies twice the number of claims (without a meaningful appeals process and without meaningful recourse in a court of law), and STILL manages to lose more to fraud than the private insurance industry?

I don't get it. I just don't know how you could screw this up this badly.

All this sounds like an administrative nightmare. Do they still claim that they run medicare on a 4% overhead? What a joke. 4% must be the cost before they fund the "carriers" - which is where the real costs will only commence.

1 in 8 [claims] are fraudulent or improper

"Fraudulent" is very different from "improper". The latter may simply mean that it's not consistent with one of the thousands of definitions they use to describe claims.

I haven't followed the healthcare story for a while. Does it still look like they'll succeed in making this historic Great Leap Leftward?
