Jane, may God bless your efforts...
Keep in mind none of my points apply to you since I never percieved you as a person to neglect the poor and lost and spend massive amounts of time is generating books about minutia,
But, the present era of music we are in is no different from any other time.
Please research the Wesleys. God's most prolific writers.
Their music was branded satanic and not allowed in churches for years becasue it had the rhythm of bar and tavern music and they just changed the lyrics. In time , the music was judged by it's fruit and people changed and it was accepted and now could be played in any church in the world although in some churches it couldn't have instruments which I think if a church wants to interpret scripture as no instruments in church...that's perfectly okay for them to do that.
As I stated, our church doesn't have a band... we have those that lead praise and worship and in our church praise and worship is not a spectator sport. It's from the congregation and it has powerful effects on the forces of darkness.
Most demons cannot stand in the present of true powerful Praise and Worship...some can , most cannot. When the secular rock demon came out of me. I was praising Jesus and He lifted me up to a beautiful point.
The demon in me could not stand that level of praise so it had to leave and no one said "come out of him" and no one vomitted.....
heck, I didn't even know I had a demon in me . I had been saved for decades.
God Bless

<"I seem to be the only sister, for some strange reason">
JH, think. You are not the only "sister" on this thread.
Also---skipping Church to have it with this motely group?! Wow. Why not go down to the pub and meet Jesus' friends there. <gg>
Re. the Wesley Brothers hymnody. Charles wrote 98 percent of the Wesley songs, John was the preacher and brilliant administrator. It is true that many of the tavern tunes/songs of the day were used for the words that Charles wrote.
Sounds like we are in the same music camp.
Actually, I write music---scripture chorus', etc. but have always drawn the line when it comes to what I consider to be the "sensual" side of music where the volume, beat, tempo, etc. get turned way up. Then it enters into the intangible soul part of our psyche and there is a very "fine line" between what is "fleshly" and what is "spirit."
I have seen so-called Christian singing of songs that were tremendously sensual---breathy, etc.
However, as old-fashioned as I am, I know there is room for some of the newer stuff---it is that so much "rebelliousness" still comes through.
So much BIAS is weaved into our makeup, that it spills over time and again.
In the sermon at church this morning the preacher was preaching from the last chapter of Nehemiah and his summation was a quote from Richard Foster's book: "Money, Sex, and power" and the upshot was that even in the rebuilding/regathering era that trio of problems was going on then.
'Enuf ramblin.
Has this thread ever been "hot" over the week-end!
Have a sensational week!
