In retrospect this is easy to say, but any company incurring the costs to do this voluntarily/unilaterally would have been putting themselves out of business. As much as it pains me to say it, there is a role for government in regulating the use of the environment. Unfortunately, the pendulum swings to extremes. That's a problem.
