For one thing, it seems to indicate that the Arab lobby is strong enough to make Hagel equalize his views on Israel to those with the Arabs.
It could be perceived that way. OTOH, I see it as a man with guts or a man committing a political suicide. After all Ron Paul speaks his mind and he is ridiculed in MSM or Zionists like Bill Krystal calling him "un-American".

On the sheer basis of comparative politics, I don't believe we should diminish our relationship with a democracy
You see that is the problem, no one is asking to diminish our relationship with Israel (BTW, I doubt that Israel is a democracy as we know it, 20% Arabs have 2% representation. It is hardly called a democracy) what is asked of us is not to be Israel's lapdog.

in favor of a dictatorship
The sad part is that we endorsed these dictatorships.

AND ESPECIALLY governments, such as Lebanon, where the real power is Syria and Hizballah, with the latter being a Militant Religious organization with strong ties to Iran and a genocidal agenda similar to Hamas.
Oh yes Lebanon, are you talking about the same country that we gave to Syria to forgo the Golan and sit with Israel and negotiate peace? That is another topic. Last I heard is that Lebanon is a democracy. You can check with your brother-in-law. Hizbo, as well as different factions political spectrum of the country were elected into parliament. As much as I do not agree with Hizbo's ideology, they were elected into government, one man equals one vote. That is democracy. I believe the Lebanese had an election not long ago and the political fight was fierce from all sides, at some point it was compared to an American election. Do we treat Lebanon the same way that we treated the Palestinians when they elected Hamas? Remember, one person equals one vote fair and equal representation.
Now, take off your Zionists goggles and look at it from the other side's prospective. Hizbo filled a need to the Shiia population i.e built hospitals, school, helped the unemployed etc. where the Lebanese government ignored those people. The same goes for Hamas. Regardless of their policies, they both put their people first and won the hearts and minds. It should not be a surprise when they get elected.
If you look at who lobbied to declare Hizbo and Hamas as terrorist groups you will find that AIPAC did a pretty good job.

I wouldn't want him as National Intelligence Coordinator either.
There a handful of politicians that have the guts to speak their minds and to stand up to AIPAC.

As for Rosenthal, I know nothing about her, nor do I care to, and I suspect you don't care about her either.
You got that right.

But it's pretty clear that there is a schism within the Jewish lobby, because many prominent Jews were supporting her nomination. Sounds like there's a bit of blacklisting going on within the Jewish Lobby that serves like a Jewish version of McCarthyism.
Why should she or anyone else be approved or disproved by any lobby? Shouldn't we pick the person best suited for the job?

But from all the criticism I see within the Press and MSM for Israel, it's apparent they don't have as much control as you believe. After all, they couldn't stop Ha'aretz from publishing this article.. ;0)
What criticism? Any criticism of Israel is called Anti-Semitic or is watered down to the point where Israel comes out looking as a victim. video.google.com
As for Ha'aretz publishing the article, it could be perceived many different ways, for example, Ha'aretz could be tell Americans we control you and we do not care if you know it.
