I'm certain the snowbirds from the northeast and the midwest are loving it!

Thanks for keeping the thread up on the nation's weather Kenneth. I still think you should consider starting your own weather thread; since this is a political forum and well, we all know the weather has nothing to do with politics. The only other suggestion I have is maybe you should also post where some states are having colder than usual weather. You know just to show your disclosing everything and offering a balanced unbiased view.

The Obama/Geithner/Bernanke easy-money policy is ultimately going to send the dollar south and trigger an inflation shock the likes of which we haven’t seen in 30 years.

At the jobs summit, Mr. Obama said "I want to hear from CEOs what's holding back our business investment." Really?

How about the world's highest corporate tax rate? How about the 5.4% health-care surtax on top of the expiring Bush tax cuts, which will push the top marginal individual rate, paid at the outset by many entrepreneurs, well over 40%?

Set aside income taxes as the unransomed hostages of progressive dogma. Justify this: The Senate health-reform bill imposes a $4 billion annual excise tax on medical devices and diagnostic equipment. In a slow-innovation economy, which is what we have now, medical and diagnostic miracles sit at the intersection of American science, technology, education and IQ. That stuff defines American entrepreneurship and ingenuity. If the Obama Democrats will tax these people, they'll tax anything that produces income, no matter how innovative or job-creating.

The Obama bet is that the U.S. can be a Franco-German welfare state, with a mammoth public sector, and still compete with China, India, Brazil, Korea and the rest. This is a pipedream. We are going to spend four years treading water. If we tread quickly enough, we may get enough growth to save the Democrats, but not the nation.

Bush closes the gap

December 09, 2009

Public Policy Polling:

Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama's declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they'd rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term that's somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country's difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former President.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A deadly, windy storm that has paralyzed a wide swath of the nation for days left bitter cold behind as it finally made its exit Thursday, with temperatures below freezing in several states and gusts that made it feel as cold as minus 25.

Emergency rooms took in people who had slipped and fallen, overdone shoveling or reached their hands into clogged snowblowers. Tow trucks freed drivers from the sides of icy roads and everyday residents simply struggled to get around in the frigid winds.

Aileen Azares, 42, of Dallas spent part of the day taking photos in Chicago’s Millennium Park, where sculptures sported snow hats and icicle beards. Azares wore a pink scarf but was still cold.

"Right now my ears are hurting," Azares said.

The days-old storm made its first punch in the West before plowing across two-thirds of the country with heavy snow, icy winds, and even lightning and thunder before preparing to blow out to sea off Maine.

<b<At least 17 people have died in the meandering storm, including a man found Wednesday outside his pickup in central Iowa and a North Carolina driver killed when a tree was blown onto his pickup.
