Glenn,
I think he means it as a compliment. I share the sentiment in that I respect when someone is upfront and honest with me. Unlike for example an investment broker or an analyst that will exchange all sorts of pleasentries with you, all the while hoping he can find an opportunity to get his hand inside your wallet.
Best Regards

not only consumer modems are involved but also the concentrators/aggregators at the CLEC & Carriers end. this is where Ascend's TNT-DSLAM comes into play because of its port high density and high speed in a relatively small package. COMS doesn't
have anything remotely (pardon the pun) like it.

The package size is extremely important because of limited real estate availability in the Central Offices.

Moreover ATM and FR are involved; again Ascend has the product already in existence with the exception of the ROK-based chipsets that'll become available sometime in Q3 1998.

The ROK anouncement doesn't indicate how the ISPs will have to be equipped but if there's a market there it'll be a hot one, IMHO.

Then there's the matter of standards - ROK announced the development early on in the game, hoping to see a standard emerge from the ITU ADSL.lite committee in time for when the chipsets begin mass production. Smart all around.
