Katelew;

Mary, we are in no position to be dictating anything to anybody....not the Europeans and not the Chinese. Both these groups are doing fine without our advice and certainly without our example.

Wiser words were never said.

No doubt. They do what they think is in their own best interest. China has to grow their economy. Either that or there will be huge civil unrest.

Europeans for the most part are happy with their lives. Scandinavians usually rank highest in most polls with regard to satisfaction in life (even though there are lotsof suicides which I assume comes from life being too easy). They have terrific education, health care, unemployment, low income, and all kinds of welfare types of programs to do away with economic disparity.

For us, we have to balance human suffering against what we can afford to do. We have 10 percent measurable unemployment but most people agree that it is closer to 17-18%. This is close to Depression levels.

Most people either live with someone or are related to someone unemployed.

There are no signs indicating inflation in our economy and most economist (I believe most economists are Keynesians) believe that current debt levels pose no threat to our economy.
