Steady growth and low inflation for two decades, as I recall. I give credit for that to the man who people are ignoring now (Volcker) than to anyone else. He had the integrity to kill the inflationary spiral we were in by raising rates sky-high despite the screaming from politicians and the public alike. He plausibly got more death threats than anyone except Obama in recent years (I knew someone who worked at the Fed back then who told me about them).
