I still can't figure out why we are fighting a war in Afghanistan-of all the God forsaken places on the planet.

Iraq makes sense- It happens to be sitting on a huge supply of oil.

Afghanistan is harder to define. It is amorphous, and the population seems too xenophobic. It seems they'd rather suffer under their own brutal rulers than trust anyone who's a foreigner. I hope I'm wrong, but it appears that no matter what we do, in the end they'll revert to their traditional ways very quickly.

I've heard different, that the population wants us there. One difference between Iraq and Afghanistan is that the population in Afghanistan has experience in Taliban rule, and they don't want more of it.
