I generally agree with you wrt the current status of engineering. And that it will be a long time before machines can replace people. But the example that you give here is extremely poor. Kitty Hawk is barely 100 years old. Once we get it completely right in landing a plane remotely using humans and allow human error to get in the way will be a luxury that no one will want.

Think about that. It was just barely 100 years ago that the Wright brothers took off. They are now landing on the moon, mars, and beyond by remote control.
