Back when I made my largest Roth conversion around 1998, the talk about converting the US from an income tax to a flat tax was more serious. I agree an income tax cut is less likely now.

Here's another reason keeping funds in a regualr IRA: the taxable nature of the distributions is a strong incentive to minimize withdrawals.

Once it's available for nontaxable distributions from a Roth IRA, some folks might be tempted to blow large chunks of it on wasteful spur-of-the-moment spending like fancy new cars and trips to tropical islands. I must admit I've been casting covetous glances at my own Roth. ;)
