It doesn't seem all that likely at all. There is abundant evidence that there were many areas where there was little or no change.

"Otherwise, there would be plenty of evidence of the Southern Hemisphere heating up in response, not experiencing several cold spells of their own."

Doesn't follow at all. The globe has been in a slight cooling trend over the past 10k+ years. If one area was somewhat colder for a while, that isn't unexpected.
