people have been proclaiming the death of USTs for many yrs now. imo we just don't know and yields on the long bond could hit new lows, especially if the market and economy cr*sh again.

as for gold, yes, it can go much higher, but perhaps not before going much lower.

i own both Treasurys and gold. in equal amounts. i can picture scenarios where one does well and the other poorly, and vice-versa. i can also picture scenarios where they both do well. it is much harder for me to picture a scenario where they both do poorly over a long time period. over a short time period at least, this past week cast a dissenting vote.

for the people who ascribe meaning to every squiggle in every asset class, i have one piece of advice: Don't quit your dayjob.
