Republicans opposition to the Senate Health Care bill seems hypocritical when we remember their sponsorship of Part D of Medicare.

Not really.

1 - This new program is bigger, more expensive, and more fiscally irresponsible.

2 - The problems with the new "reform" program aren't just fiscal issues. Its also very complex, and exercises far more government intervention and control, than Part D.

3 - Its in the context of worse deficits and higher existing government spending.

4 - Democrat's opposition to Part D was often expressed in terms of making it more generous.

5 - I'm not a fan of Part D either. I'm not Bush, neither are many other Republicans or conservatives, or libertarians (Bush is certainly not the last of those three). If members of those groups campaign against the current bill, the fact that Bush pushed Part D, isn't really relevant.

6 - Even people who did push Part D and other expansions of government can recognize their mistake. Nothing hypocritical about doing so.
